Many people now use their fingernails as canvases to showcase their creativity and personalities thanks to the international craze that is nail art. People are always showcasing their newest and even impossible-complex designs on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. Where did it all start, and how did your fingernail color go from being unimportant to being at least as essential as your clothing?
Nail polish and nail art have been around since 3000 BC in China, India, and Egypt. Plants were processed to make a dye that was applied as a form of nail lacquer and reflected social status and money; the affluent wore dark colors like red, while the poor wore softer, whiter hues. To identify their culture, the Inca civilisation even went as far as painting elaborate creatures on their nails!
Nail enamel wasn't modernized into the nail polish we see and recognize today until the first half of the 19th century. A large variety of paints and colors were introduced by the car industry's expansion and were quickly adopted for use on nails. The traditional "moon manicure" was developed, and Revlon adjusted the color mix to emphasize pigments rather than dyes, further boosting the growth of the nail polish sector.
It wasn't long before nail paint became to represent individuality and inventiveness. Black nail paint was popular among rock, punk, and goth bands, and the color of your nails revealed which subculture you belonged to. With the use of diamonds, airbrushing, fine detail, and nail extensions, nail art is now completely incorporated into the world of fashion and can complete any look.
To complete my look, I personally enjoy changing the color and pattern of my nails, and rather than seeing it as a duty, I actually enjoy coming up with new patterns. The internet is a great source of ideas, and the most recent release of metallic nail wraps allows everyone to get a polished look in half the time!
